Seattle IronGirl 5k/10k

Christine Blanchette and I just got back from the Seattle IronGirl 5k/10k event. This event is the 5th of a series of 8 nationally organized event (US only). IronGirl, in conjuction with Ryka, uses this series to celebrate all women runners, as well as to raise funds for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

The event was held at Green Lake Park and loops around the park (1 loop for the 5k and 2 loops for the 10k). The course is fairly flat and the pathway is used by many walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Proudly wearing our LGRR singlets, Christine did the 10k event and I did the 5k event. Christine had an excellent race, giving her her fastest 10k time for year, placing 5th overall in the race and first in her age group. I placed 11th overall in the 5k and 2nd in my age group.

I was very impressed with the event as it was well organized, had great attention to detail, and had a very community-like feel. Here are a few highlights:

– Every race bib had your name on it
– Every finisher got a beautiful finishers medal
– Age group winners were given a cute sterling silver pendant
– post race breakfast cafe, complete with tables with tablecloths
– photographers at the finish area taking pictures, and then being uploaded directly to the laptops on site and printed for you right there

Those are just a few of the great reasons why Christine and I will be going back next year! We would love to have more international exposure of the Lions Gate women – so keep this race in mind, as I’ll be sending out another email next year to remind you of all the great things this race has to offer.

Here’s a link to few pictures we took at the race:
